After a string of successful tests,
Oliver has signed to contest this year's British Formula 3 International series
with reigning champions, Carlin Motorsport.
Carlin Motorsport have
completed their British Formula 3 line-up for this season by signing Oliver.
The deal also sees the 21-year old returning to the team with whom he started
his single-seater career in 2006.
He said, "I am obviously excited to be
back at Carlin. I've remained good friends with Trevor (Carlin) and his
colleagues, so in a way it's like coming home. Their results have shown that
they're pretty much the best F3 team in the world and that's where every driver
wants to be".
Trevor commented, "Oliver is a long-standing friend of the
team and we've been watching his progress keenly since he drove for us in BMW.
I believe that with some hard work and consistency, he could be a real
contender in 2009".
He added, "Oli scored his first ever win with us and
we hope he will play a significant part in the team's future
successes."
Oliver is clearly aware that expectations are high and says,
"Anything less than the title will be a disappointment."
Despite
competing in just five rounds of the championship last year with Eurotek
Motorsport, Oliver believes that he can genuinely challenge for the title with
a full season and the champion team behind him in 2009.
"Last year
finished on a high for me with pole at the final race. Hopefully I can pick up
where I left off from. I'd like to thank John Gentry and the guys at Eurotek
for all their hard work last year. For a team that only started in June we made
incredible progress. My pole position at Donington was testimony to all their
dedication and hard work."
He is also looking forward to working with
Carlin's new engine partner, Volkswagen. "It'll take me a little time to
adjust to the different characteristics of the VW motor, but I don't anticipate
having any major problems. With a manufacturer of their calibre and pedigree
supporting us, I'm sure we'll be a strong package".
